  1. Freedom is based on FreeType, a portable freeware TrueType engine made by
  2. David Turner, Robert Wilhelm and Werner Lemberg. For more information about
  3. the FreeType Project have a look at the readme's in the "FreeType" sub-
  4. directory and visit their homepage at "http://www.freetype.org".

  6. Freedom would not have been possible without the FreeType guys who have done
  7. a really great job especially with their very nice and easy to use API. They
  8. have also managed to find out many undocumented features of TrueType files
  9. , which for some strange reason Apple and/or Microsoft don't like to reveal,
  10. resulting in a rendering quality of the fonts which comes very near to what
  11. one gets on MacOS and Windows.

  13. There's one other program that helped me a lot, the Amiga type1 font engine
  14. by Amish S. Dave (later updated by Jamie Keir). Unfortunately this engine
  15. has never (as far as I know) come out of the beta stadium - I guess because
  16. of the very poor documentation about how to write Amiga font engines, one
  17. can find (at least on the Amiga Developper CD 1.1 I have)
