Freedom is based on FreeType, a portable freeware TrueType engine made by
David Turner, Robert Wilhelm and Werner Lemberg. For more information about
the FreeType Project have a look at the readme's in the "FreeType" sub-
directory and visit their homepage at "http://www.freetype.org".
Freedom would not have been possible without the FreeType guys who have done
a really great job especially with their very nice and easy to use API. They
have also managed to find out many undocumented features of TrueType files
, which for some strange reason Apple and/or Microsoft don't like to reveal,
resulting in a rendering quality of the fonts which comes very near to what
one gets on MacOS and Windows.
There's one other program that helped me a lot, the Amiga type1 font engine
by Amish S. Dave (later updated by Jamie Keir). Unfortunately this engine
has never (as far as I know) come out of the beta stadium - I guess because
of the very poor documentation about how to write Amiga font engines, one
can find (at least on the Amiga Developper CD 1.1 I have)
The library code is based on CLib by Andreas R. Kleinert
